Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word." (Catechism of the Catholic Church #1213) 

The Sacrament of Baptism is the first Sacrament received by all Catholics. Baptism opens the door to access all the other Sacraments.  

Baptism in the Catholic Church dates back to the birth of Catholicism on the day of Pentecost.

Infant Baptism 

The practice of infant Baptism is an immemorial tradition of the faith. It goes back to the early days of the Church when entire households were baptized, this including infants.

1. PARISHIONER REGISTRATION – Catholic parents must be registered members of St. Ignatius Parish for at least 3 months. See the attached Parishioner Registration form if you are not a registered member of the Parish.  
2. PARENT’S BAPTISM CERTIFICATE - Please email or drop off a copy of the Catholic Baptism Certificate of the mother or father. 
3. BAPTISM REGISTRATION - Please complete the attached Baptism Form and return it to me or to the Parish Secretary at [email protected] or you may drop off at the Church office.  
4. GODPARENTS - Please complete the attached form for the godparents you have chosen for your baby. The godparents must be able to answer yes to each of the questions listed. The forms must be completed and returned by email or drop off at the Church office. You may choose one OR two godparents. At least one must be a Catholic who is Baptised, Confirmed and made Holy Communion. The Catholic godparent(s) must be older than 16, and if married must be married in the Catholic Church. Godparent must be a practicing Catholic.  
5.  OVERSEAS GODPARENT(S) - If the godparents you have chosen are not living in the Cayman Islands, we will need a letter of good standing from their Parish Priest. The Parish Priest must also give his permission for the chosen godparents to be godparents in our Parish. This is a standard request. If this will be the case and the godparents is not able to travel to Cayman for the Baptism you will need to choose at least one person to be a proxy for the godparent(s) who is (are) not living in Cayman.  
6. BABY’S BIRTH CERTIFICATE - Please email or drop off a copy of your Baby's Birth Certificate.

• The course must be done by the parents and godparents, who live on island. 
• You will choose the first option, Baptism, Certification course and click BUY NOW to purchase the program. The course costs $10US.  
• Once you're done, it will issue you a certificate that you will need to bring to the Church Office or scan and email to me.  
• Once we have the certificate, Parents and godparents will be scheduled to attend the next in-person meeting prior to the Baptism, which is usually held on the first Monday of each month.  

• Families MUST attend the 11:30am Mass 
• Baptism is held immediately after the Mass.
• Families that do not attend the Mass prior, will have their child’s baptism delayed.
