Youth Ministry

St. Ignatius Youth Ministry provides programmes and activities for youth ages 11-18 (high school years) who attend St. Ignatius Parish and/or School. Occasional activities are done for Primary aged children.

The activities are based on the ‘Five S’ combination of Spiritual, Social, Service, Sports, and Safety.
Youth events regularly take place on Friday evenings from 7:00-9:00 pm throughout the school year. Most activities take place in Loyola Hall but some occur off-site.

Some of the regular Youth events include:
- Youth Ministry Programmes, such as Alpha, Encounter or Edge
- Backwards Dinner
- Capture the Flag
- Team Trivia
- Butt Volleyball
- Beach and Kayaking Trip
- Christmas Carols Bus Tour
- Bowling at Kings
- Scavenger Hunts
- Attending plays/shows at local theatres
Special events include trips off island (usually once a year) and include:
- World Youth Day
- Steubenville Conference
Some of the events which involve younger children include:
- Vacation Bible School
- Parents’ Day Out
- Years 5-6 Games Night
Several of the Youth events benefit the wider Parish, including:
- Lenten Fish Fry Fridays
- Easter Egg Hunt
- Dinner Nights

We are currently studying the Letter of James. James Pearls for Wise Living. Bible Study sessions started on Monday, February 07 and are held on Mondays at 6:15pm in the Loyola Hall for 11 weeks.

In James: Pearls for Wise Living, Jeff Cavins shows how the teachings of James speak to those of us who feel torn between the competing demands of this world and our faith. Meant to help a fledgling Church live out its faith in the face of persecution and a worldview opposed to the gospel, the book of James will help you discover wisdom you can apply to the present.
- RCIA (Becoming a Catholic)
  The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a process whereby those interested in learning about the Catholic faith come together on a weekly basis to learn about the scriptures and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, and at the same time, to discover where God is present in their lives.
  
  The process is designed for those adults who are:
  - Unbaptised
  - Baptised in another Christian tradition
  - Baptised Catholic, but with no further Faith Formation, Confirmation and First Communion
Timeline:
- Classes start on the First Tuesday in September.
- Adult Baptisms, Confirmation and First Holy Communion takes place at the Easter Vigil (Saturday evening before Easter Sunday)
- Classes continue until about 7 weeks after Easter
